What thickness should a gym floor be

While we are choosing the floor for commercial gym or home gym, we always wonder how thick should the floor be. Today, we list some advises based on our experience.


Home Gym

In this case, interlocking rubber mats are more often used for its easy installation and housekeeping. And the thickness ranges from 6mm to 12mm. 

6mm, 8mm, 10mm are best sales among all crossfit rubber mats.


Commercial Gym

In non-weight areas, rubber rolls are used more often in fitness clubs. The thickness ranges from 3mm to 12mm. But usually 4mm thick roll and 6mm thick roll are used in this area. If there are heavy equipments, 12mm or 10mm thick rubber roll are also used for being better heavy duty. 


For weight room flooring, thick rubber tiles are installed to protect the floor and fitness equipments. Thick rubber tiles help to drop heavy weight and abosrb shock from lifting. 20mm rubber tiles are commonly used. Other thickness available are 15mm, 25mm, 30mm. The thicker is, the higher the price is.
